Rockies Brought Back Down To Earth By Rays

Jorge De La Rosa was hammered early and often as he gave up 7 runs and couldn't make it past the 3rd inning as the Rays pounded the Rockies 12-4. Tampa Bay hit 5 home runs in the game and Colorado was never really in this game. The Rockies were going for their 12th straight win but the Rays had other plans and instead added to their current 6 game win streak. Jeff Niemann pitched decent for the Rays going 5 innings giving up 3 runs. Brad Hawpe and Clint Barmes were about the only bright spots for the Rockies as Hawpe had a pair of doubles and Barmes added a couple hits. The loss dropped Colorado to 31-33 on the season while the Rays improved to 35-30.

The two teams meet again as the Rockies will look to rebound from their first loss in two weeks and will try to end the Rays win streak. Aaron Cook (5-3, 4.26 ERA) takes the mound for the Rockies and will be looking to get his third straight victory. The Rays counter with David Price (1-0, 2.37) who has yet to make it past the 6th inning in 4 starts this season. The rookie has never faced Colorado while Cook has struggled himself against the Rays in his career going 0-1 with an ERA of 8.35 in 2 starts. Brad Hawpe has been hot for the Rockies the last 3 games going 6-11 with 5 doubles the last 3 games. Colorado will need more than just one player to step up if they want to compete with the Rays who have one of the best offenses in the league. I hope the Rockies find a way to respond after the beating they took and show the league the win streak was no fluke.
