The Colorado Rockies (31-32) will try and extend their current win streak to 12 tonight when they host the defending AL Champion Tampa Bay Rays (34-31). Jorge De La Rosa (2-6, 5.08 ERA) will go up against Jeff Niemann (5-4, 4.12 ERA) in a battle of the leagues two hottest teams. Colorado comes in winning their last 11 games while Tampa Bay has won 11 of their last 15, including 5 in row. The matchup favors the Rockies though as the Rays have struggled at Coors Field going 1-5 all time. The Rays road record is not in their favor either as they are 13-19 on the road this season losing 7 of their last 8 road games coming in. The Rockies are an amazing 5-1 against American League teams this season.
De La Rosa got off to an 0-6 record this season before winning his last 2 starts against the Cardinals and the Brewers. He will be backed by a Rockies offense that has averaged 6.6 runs a game during the streak, including the likes of Hawpe, Helton, and Barmes going a combined 18-47 (.383) and driving in 11 runs. Tulowitzki was another hot Rockie last week batting .421 and cranking 3 home runs. Jim Tracy will try and improve his record to 14-4 as manager of this ball club which has found new life since he took over. Can the Rockies set a franchise record tonight? Is this team for real or will they fall back to mediocrity? How good is this team for real is this something they can keep up the rest of the season , I believe so but only time will tell. There is a lot of baseball left to be played so lets go Rockies get another sweep.
