The Colorado Rockies (28-32) have defeated the Milwaukee Brewers (33-27) by a score of 5-4 to complete the sweep. The win extends the Rockies current win streak to 8 games. Aaron Cook (5-3) picked up the win for the Rockies, while Yovani Gallardo(6-3) took the loss for the Brewers.
Cook pitched 6 solid innings for Colorado before collapsing in the 7th as he gave up 2 leadoff singles and walked a batter before being taken out of the game. He had pitched well up to that point giving up 7 hits while striking out 7 as well. The Rockies started the scoring in the second when a ball hit by Aaron Cook went up the middle and the Brewers were charged with an error. This came with the bases loaded and no one out to make the score 1-0 Rockies. The Rockies failed to get in anymore runs that inning as they had loaded the bases with no outs and only could muster up one run.
Ian Stewart then led off the 4th inning with his 13th homerun of the season giving the Rockies a 2-0 lead. The Rockies would add another run later but got a scare in the 7th. Aaron Cook loaded the bases with no outs before they brought out Matt Daley. Daley gave up a sac fly Corey Hart to cut the lead to 3-1. Alan Embree then came in and got Craig Counsel to line out to right, before he too was replaced by Joel Peralta. Peralta then walked Mike Cameron to reload the bases but then struck out Ryan Braun to end the inning. The Rockies then added 2 runs in the 8th to give them a nice 5-1 cushion going into the 9th. The Brewers would not go down without a fight as Ryan Braun then hit a 3 run homerun off of Huston Street to cut the deficit to 1. Huston Street then walked Prince Fielder, but then struck out Mat Gamel to pick up his 12th save of the season and his 4th in the last 4 days.
The win now brings Jim Tracy's record with the team to 10-4 since taking over at manager for Clint Hurdle. The Rockies were 18-28 when Hurdle was fired and have since found new life. Colorado who has played the most road games of any team in the league will now return home for a 3 game series against the Seattle Mariners. The win also tied the Rockies franchise record for consecutive wins on the road at 8. The Rox finish the 11 game road trip with an 8-3 record. Not bad for a team that has been labeled as out of contention.
