The Rockies have had plenty to celebrate the last couple of weeks and the streak continues as Colorado defeated the Seattle Mariners 5-3 for their 10th consecutive win. The win improves the Rockies record to 30-32 on the season and drops Seattle to a similar 30-32 record and guarantees another series win for Colorado.
Jason Marquis pitched 7 solid innings giving up only 1 run on 7 hits and was set up for his 9th win of the season until the 8th. The Rockies started the scoring after Jason Marquis drew a bases loaded walk in the 2nd inning, but Seattle responded in the 5th after an Adrian Beltre RBI single to tie the game. Colorado put themselves ahead in the 7th with Todd Helton driving in Seth Smith, Brad Hawpe would follow with a double to bring Helton home. The Rockies then put in Manny Corpas who gave up a walk to Ken Griffey Jr. followed by a Jose Lopez blast that would tie the game back up at 3. This is where the Rockies would have normally caved in, but instead would fight back in the 9th. Troy Tulowitzki reached on a throwing error by Mark Lowe, which put Tulo on 2nd. Carlos Gonzalez would follow with a bunt, another which Lowe fielded and threw off 3rd to put runners on the corners with no outs. Chris Iannetta would make Seattle pay hitting a line drive sac fly to give the Rockies the lead. Then after 2 walks Clint Barmes hit another sac fly to put the Rox ahead by 2. Seattle got 2 runners on in the bottom of the 9th but Huston Street struck out the last two batters to pick up the save, his 13th of the season.
Manny Corpas picked up the win despite giving up the home run and Mark Lowe took the loss for Seattle dropping him to 0-4 on the season, the win was Corpas' first of the year. The game was delayed for 42 minutes due to heavy rain. Brandon Morrow who was taking the place of Eric Bedard went 3 innings and only gave up 1 run.
